Why is it so hard to coach a target, to challenge the person bullying them?

The target already has an established, abusive relationship, with the bully.

Targets also usually some VERY unhelpful beliefs:

“Things will get better if I just keep head down” without intervention NO THEY WON’T.

“This job will look good on my CV” – fine as long as that is a conscious choice but it will render you MORE visible to the next bully.

“I’m new and have a lot to learn” there is NO excuse for abusive behaviour.

“My manager, team leader, head of department is trying to help me improve.” NO they aren’t they are trying to feel better about themselves at your expense.

“I shouldn’t be making mistakes EVER!” Often the first bully a

target has to challenge is themselves.
