Scandal after scandal, why isn’t there an overarching body for sports? A regulator who could make sure all sports are Equality Act compliant. This is particularly important in how sporting bodies interact with young people. The Boxing Board of Control is only now going to put appropriate policies in place – too late! It is thirteen years since the Equality Act became law – so self-regulation has failed – in cricket, boxing, gymnastics, rugby, and of course, football (football is to get a regulator next year, but I doubt how the Equality Act will be considered in how it regulates football.) At the very least, DMCS should be telling all sporting bodies that if they are found to not comply with the Equality Act, then the board of these organisations would have to resign.
