The man who listened to his staff and protected thousands of children from abuse as a result.

While working at the BBC, like most other BBC employees, I’d heard the rumours about Jimmy Savile, but no one had any proof. I’d also heard that someone in charge of the BBC’s charity – Children in Need – had blocked Jimmy Savile from working on it. Children in Need started in 1980, raised over £1 billion, and involved thousands of children. After listening to staff, Sir Roger said if Jimmy Savile worked on Children in Need while he was in charge of the charity, he would resign. He also established child protection practices ahead of their time to ensure children couldn’t be abused by anyone working on Children in Need. “You don’t need proof to protect.”
