I did watch a lot of the trial. I didn’t find Amber creditable. I wanted to believe her, just automatically did, over the libel trial against the Sun last year, which I didn’t follow. However some of the taped conversation in this case was disturbing.

AH:I didn’t punch you. I didn’t punch you, by the way. . . I’m sorry that I didn’t, uh, uh, hit you across the face in a proper slap, but I was hitting you, it was not punching you. Babe, you’re not punched.
JD: Don’t tell me what it feels like to be punched.
AM: I know, you’ve been in a lot of fights, been around a long time. I know, I know. Yeah.
JD: (Getting audibly upset) No! When you have a f**king closed fist.
AH: You didn’t get punched. You got hit. I’m sorry I hit you like this. But I did not punch you. I did not f**king deck you… I f**king was hitting you… I don’t know what the motion of my actual hand was, but you’re fine, I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you…
AH: I, I, You can please tell people that it was a fair fight, and see what the ju, see what the jury and judge thinks. Tell the world, Johnny, tell them Johnny Depp, I Johnny Depp, man, I’m, I’m a victim too of domestic violence
JD: yes
AH: and I know it’s a fair fight, and see how many people believe or side with you
I think Amber’s performance in court will harm her career – it was bad acting! Was she coached for the trial? Looking coldly to JD’s lawyers and then turning to the jury, to show whatever emotion she felt appropriate, was a really bad idea, it made her look rude to someone who, was after all, only doing their job. JD was more credible, though all the long pausing before he spoke was annoying. He left me wondering how much I would age before he finished a sentence! After victory he flies to London to join Jeff Beck on stage – it all seemed very self indulgent. I don’t think the win will be that good for his career. Who wants to cast someone, who drinks too much, does drugs and is routinely late to set – whilst hundreds of people, costing thousand of pounds, sit around unable to work because Johnny Depp thinks it’s OK to waste other people’s time and money. I wonder what the insurance on him, during filming will be?!
What really bothered me was all the misogamy that surfaced on social media – I could smell the smoke from 16th Century witch burnings. Neither did I appreciate being told how much it had harmed #MeToo – does the verdict over turn Harvey Weinstein conviction of course not. I find the idea that we should automatically believe a woman patronsing. I know that well over 90% of domestic violence incidents are committed by men. Amber heard just might be the exception that proves the rule?! I think the only good to come out of it, is a growing awareness about what toxic relationships look like and the importance of getting out of them quickly.
Anyone can be the target of domestic violence as it’s not always about who is the richer, or older, or stronger partner, it’s about who is the controlling partner. https://tinyurl.com/yvxwmb5v
