It never rains but it pours

First context: Jeremy Vine is always so sensible and reasonable:

Then the report

Be warned onscreen talent productions won’t shield you from this type of downpour.

Updatte:

Gino D’Acampo doesn’t behave this way with people of equal status, just with junior freelance workers. So imagine how difficult it is for them to complain, and he knows that: despicable.

ITV News spoke to dozens of crew members who worked with D’Acampo. Crews who keep their mouths shut about who wins a talent contest don’t make up stuff like this. I worked with crews for over 18 years in the 1980s/’90s, and while looking into their tea cups and saying nothing over what someone powerful had just said was familiar, I had never heard anything as bad as these reports—usually, the bigger the profile, the better the behaviour.

D’Campo must have thought he could get away with hiding behind his cheeky chappy persona. Perhaps being crowned king in I’m a Celebrity in 2009 went to his head. People always make their worst mistakes when they are being their most arrogant. I’ve always thought arrogance was a symptom of stupidity! I would like to see the Ginos of this world sacked at the time and then sued by the production companies to pay for any reshoots incurred. They’d only have to do it once! It should be in EVERYONE’s contacts:

EVERYONE working on this production must be treated with dignity and respect. This production has zero tolerance for bullying & harassment. Anyone guilty of such behaviour will be sacked, and the production will seek costs for any reshoot incurred.

Without such clauses, how can anyone believe that a production company and, by implication, ITV itself when they say the welfare of those working for them is of highest priority?

It’s not rocket science agents should be warning their clients – the higher your profile, the better your behaviour must be. If you can’t manage your own behaviour you shouldn’t be working anywhere including on a TV set.
