The most important woman to hear.

I disagree with her on ALL policy, but on Trump, she’s the most important voice to hear.

I spent quite a bit of time glued to her book over Christmas – it’s a white-knuckle ride. Cheney doesn’t mention her policy positions; she tells it like it was and how it will be again if Americans don’t wake up! I’m not having a pop at Americans – we elected a lazy public school boy so charismatic he persuaded the UK to leave the most successful trading block that has ever existed. If you are an American Trump supporter, at least read this book before you vote for him again.

Not only did Trump not honour his oath of office – he swore to protect the constitution – instead he tried to overturn it.

“President Trump oversaw a sophisticated seven-part plan to overturn the 2020 election and prevent the transition of presidential power.

From the January 6th select committee CNN

  1. President Trump engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information to the American public claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him.
  2. President Trump corruptly planned to replace the Acting Attorney General, so that the Department of Justice would support his fake election claims.
  3. President Trump corruptly pressured Vice President Pence to refuse to count certified electoral votes in violation of the US Constitution and the law.
  4. President Trump corruptly pressured state election officials, and state legislators, to change election results.
  5. President Trump’s legal team and other Trump associates instructed Republicans in multiple states to create false electoral slates and transmit those slates to Congress and the National Archives.
  6. President Trump summoned and assembled a violent mob in Washington and directed them to march on the US Capitol.
  7. As the violence was underway, President Trump ignored multiple pleas for assistance and failed to take immediate action to stop the violence and instruct his supporters to leave the Capitol.”

There are farcical elements of what happened after Biden’s win, which is dangerous as it leads people to believe there is no real threat or that it’s being exaggerated.
Chris Krebs, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency at the Department of Homeland Security, was appointed by Trump. “On November 12th, Krebs has issued a joint statement with other state and federal election officials explaining that ‘the 2020 election was the most secure in American history’ and that ‘there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.'” Trumped fired him.

“My voting record was more conservative than those of many members of the Freedom Caucus, a supposedly ‘conservative’ group. But a number of its members were hypersensitive to any criticism I made of Donald Trump. They had been grumbling about my public opposition to things such as Trump’s September 2020 suggestion that we could postpone the presidential election. They were angry when I challenged Trump’s refusal that same month to commit to a peaceful transfer of power. And they seemed especially upset when I tweeted a picture of my dad wearing a mask in June of 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, along with the caption ‘Real Men Wear Masks.'”

Whilst many of her Republican colleagues turned their backs on their experience on January 6th, and their oaths to defend the Constitution Liz Cheney stood firm. What Trump could do if he wins or even if he loses this year could be terrifying. What is most shocking in this book is how quickly Republicans redrew what happened in the 2020 election and on January 6th so that they could re/join Trump – he’s a great fundraiser. Republicans then had to portray Cheney as the bad guy.

During the eventually successful attempts to oust Cheney as Chair of the Republican party, “‘I talked about what we had all seen on January 6th, when a mob of people – some wearing the insignia of neo-Nazi and white supremacists - had attacked our Capital. ‘We cannot become the party of QAnon’ I said, ‘We cannot become the party of Holocaust denial. We cannot become the party of white supremacy. That can never be us… We believe above all else in fidelity to the Constitution.’

I had talked to many of my colleagues over the previous weeks, and we obviously had come to different conclusions on impeachment. But we owed each other honesty and clarity. I said I would not apologize for my impeachment vote, and I would not apologize for my statements explaining the vote.’…

The criticisms ran mostly along predictable lines, with Freedom Caucus members assailing my lack of loyalty to Donald Trump…

Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey, who had been a Republican for even less time than Donald Trump, said my vote had made it hard for him to explain to people in his swing district why he hadn’t voted to impeach…

A number of the men who spoke in favor of removing me said they didn’t like my tone. I wasn’t contrite enough, nor had I learned my lesson. Ralph Norman of South Carolina kept repeating that his problem with me was my attitude: ‘You’ve just got such a defiant attitude!’ John Rutherford of Florida said I was just too recalcitrant and hadn’t learned from my mistakes. The he accused me of not ‘Riding for the brand.’

I’m sure Rutherford thought he was clever quoting a cowboy phrase to lecture me about loyalty. ‘John,’ I reminded him, ‘our “brand” is the US Constitution.’

A couple of male colleagues were so enraged by my unwillingness to apologize that they got themselves really worked up and seemed on the verge of tears as they lectured me. I tried to follow what the most emotional members were saying but it wasn’t easy. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, for example, seemed angry because I had released a statement before I voted. In an effort to describe how upset he was, he said, ‘It’s like you’re playing the biggest game of your life and you look up and see your girlfriend sitting on the opponent’s side!’

These were grown men. This is 2021. I was standing at the podium at the front of the auditorium, thinking, You’ve got to be kidding me. Other female members started yelling, ‘She’s not your girlfriend!'”

On 2020 election night I loved Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s reaction to Philadelphia’s results in 2020 election

Yes this is all amusing but if Trump gets in again he will make sure he puts all the right people in the right places to do WHATEVER he wants and to hell with with constitution.

I’ve read that once someone has emotionally invested in a politician it’s very difficult to change their mind which is why I hope that EVERY American who hasn’t will vote against Trump should the time come or you’ll end up with a president for life.
